Maker Robotics

Build robots that move, sense, and solve real problems.

3 weeks Ages 13-18 Ages 13–18 Hands-on builds

Why Maker Robotics Matters

Physical computing builds problem sense and engineering discipline. It creates memorable demo days that fill school halls and WhatsApp groups — great for conversions and PR.

What Students Build

Week 1

Basics & Sensors

Simple sensor circuit that reports to serial/phone. Learn microcontrollers, wiring, LEDs, and basic motor control.

Week 2

Movement & Control

Robot that can drive and stop on sensor input. Master motor drivers, PWM, and chassis assembly.

Week 3

Behavior & Demo

Demo-ready robot with line-following or obstacle avoidance + demo video + short case-study.

Final Deliverable

A functioning robot or IoT device (line-follower, obstacle-avoider, or simple delivery bot) + demo video + control dashboard or mobile trigger.

Week-by-Week Curriculum

Week 1 — Basics & Sensors

Deliverable: Simple sensor circuit that reports to serial/phone

  • Intro to microcontrollers (micro:bit / Arduino Nano RP2040 / CircuitPython on Feather)
  • Wiring, LEDs, sensors (distance / light), basic motor control
  • Safety protocols and proper handling of electronics

Week 2 — Movement & Control

Deliverable: Robot that can drive and stop on sensor input

  • Motor drivers, PWM, power safety
  • Chassis assembly and mechanical design
  • Build the robot body and get basic movement working (forward/back/turn)

Week 3 — Behavior, Deploy & Demo

Deliverable: Demo-ready robot + short case-study

  • Add logic (line-following, obstacle avoidance) or remote control (Bluetooth / simple web dashboard)
  • Safety, battery management, packaging for demo day
  • Practice pitch and record demo video
  • Demo day presentation to parents and school

What You Need

Only Requirement

A laptop or computer

All robotics hardware, components, and materials are provided. You just bring your laptop.

Safety & Operations

Teacher Support

1 lead teacher + assistants as needed. Assistants handle soldering, wiring errors, and broken parts.

Safety First

No live soldering without trained adult. Use pre-made connectors where possible. All safety protocols followed.

Storage & Maintenance

Locked cabinet, labeled kits, check-in/out log. Spare parts kit and quick-replace policy.
